I think there should be gun restrictions for police officers, and there should be more police officers in higher crime rate communities and fewer police officers in lower crime rate communities. There should also be unarmed mental health and professional law responders for non-violent crimes, and they should be unarmed. Police officers also need to have through background check before getting promoted.

I agree with many of your points. Police officers should definitely have a thorough background check before being promoted. And having unarmed mental health and professional responders for non-violent crimes is a great idea.
However, I don't think we need more police officers in higher crime rate communities. Instead, we should invest more in social programs that address the root causes of crime like poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and discrimination.
For example, instead of spending millions of dollars on military-grade equipment for police departments, we should invest that money in public schools, after-school programs, affordable housing, and job training programs.
What do you think about this approach?
