Community goals will not always benefit you, someone can contribute sure but whether it is substantial to them is up for debate. Where as personal will ALWAYS have an effect on you in some way shape or form that can and most likely will last.

It impacts your sense of identity and individuality because if you focus more on the community then yourself how will you find out who you really all and what you want to do with your life.
