Is it more important for a country to be economically independent or to have strong international trade relations?

Economic independence would be better, but both are desired. The former supports the latter in my opinion. Being strong economically provides stronger footing for trade deals and resistance against unfair deals.

Strong International trade relations are important but, a country should also hold a strong independent economy.

i feel like it is more important for a country to be economically independent because if they are always relying on other countries to help them in situations, then they are never going to advance and or grow with their country.
