I think that people are able to think for themselves, but there is going to be some people who always follow what a politican says, just because they don't have the independence to think for themselves.

Definitely, people in times of perceived crisis are easily swayed to the ideas of people in power, and if ideals of a politician align with hate then their followers will believe the same.

Yes, there will always be some people who are affected by political powers.
Many people will believe every word a politician's word with no proof so when one spews hate against Jewish people, many others are inclined to believe the same.

Given that it is Trump, he used Twitter to blast hate onto whatever he felt like. This can include Jewish people. I don't think any politician should be able to stand for such hate.
