Israel has been emboldened to settle the West Bank, fund Hamas, blockade Gaza, and all of that except the funding Hamas part has accelerated since Oct. 7, because of U.S. arms and political cover.
Saudi Arabia also enjoys arms from the U.S. which is used against Iranian proxies as well. Which is odd because Saudi Arabia actually attacked us on 9/11, not Iran.
All of this is a power struggle for control of the Middle East, holy lands and Muslim world. U.S. involvement only distorts this process, creating indefinite war, gets our service members killed in the sandbox for nothing.
Without our flood of military support, Israel and the Arab states would be forced to ally against Iran, but give concessions on Palestine. Diplomatic solutions will be priority instead of military ones. A Palestinian state would remove the need for armed resistance, and hence remove armed proxy groups from Iran. Yes of course a strong intelligence network would be needed to stop any whiff of rebellion, but a thriving Palestinian state alongside Israel with a port and humming economy is a powerful deterrent.
The U.S. could be engaged diplomatically and offer Iran carrots instead of sticks. Remove sanctions for playing nice with the threat of backing SA and Israel again if they want the hard way. A different tack is needed now, our ME policy is counterproductive.
