Contraception (birth control) are methods or devices used to prevent pregnancy. Contraception was illegal in Ireland until the government passed the Family Planning Bill which legalized the sale of birth control pills for medical purposes. An amendment was passed in 1985 which allowed condoms to be sold to people over 18 without a prescription.
