Should the government increase spending on public transportation?
Instead, give incentives to private companies that can do a better job than the FED.
Historically private companies did run public transportation all over this country, but key historical developments made it unprofittable and given the responsibility to the governments. The automobile is that development, and it's a lot more complex than a competition problem. A lot of people across the country did not like the private companies that did ran their public transportation, mostly because running a public transit company is not profittable and they built public transit out to make a profit on property, so when automobiles came around they were excited to go switch to a private option. These private companies were also very corrupt with local politicans, bribing them to allow their company to get their streetcar lines to get built. I don't want to see a repeat of that, which probably won't happen because the only way for a private company to make a worthwhile profit is so much subsidies that it's practically the government.
