This legislative proposal will make it so you must be a productive member of society with a stake in the future to vote.

It's important to consider the implications of such a legislative proposal. For instance, this could potentially disenfranchise a significant portion of the population, such as students, disabled individuals, and those facing temporary unemployment. An example of this is the Great Depression, where many capable and intelligent individuals were unable to find work and contribute as "productive members" during that time. Should their right to vote have been taken away due to circumstances beyond their control? I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on this counter argument and perhaps a solution that addresses the concerns mentioned.

Honestly, I never considered any of that. I think I would say that if you either have worked within the past 1-2 years OR you have a stake in society, you can vote. Do you think that solves the issues you brought up?
