While you mentioned that the study from the University of Texas at Austin could be manipulated, there are numerous other studies and scientific consensus supporting the notion that affirming one's gender identity is beneficial to their mental health. A study published in JAMA Surgery in 2021 found that gender-affirming surgeries are associated with significant improvements in psychological functioning, including depression and anxiety symptoms.
