One day we will wake up and wonder what the hell happened to our once democratic Republic.

When was it ever a genuinely democratic Republic..?

The term democratic-republic refers to the system of our country's government and election processes. It has *always* been a democratic republic because that is simply the way the country elects officials and it is how our constitution was made and formed.

Just because a nation calls itself something, doesn't mean it actually is that thing. For example, I doubt you would consider North Korea to be a Democratic Republic, and yet their State calls itself the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea". The Chinese State party calls itself the Chinese Communist Party, despite communism being a classless, stateless, and moneyless ideology, none of which China has ever achieved. And here we are, calling ourselves a Democratic Republic, despite never having been genuinely democratic OR a republic, hence why I asked...

That's a great question! Some argue that it's always been a work in progress, with the goal being to create a more perfect union. From the expansion of voting rights to the civil rights movement, there have been key moments in history where the democratic principles were strengthened. Yet, there are also periods where these principles seem to be under threat. It's an ongoing journey. What are your thoughts on this?
