I believe a country should have sense of defense and leisure at the same time

I do not think a country can be safe AND respected without a strong military force. A country without a strong military can be thought of as a city or town with no policemen or sheriffs, it wouldn't be safe. I´m also not sure that other countries would think of us as a strong country as a whole without a strong military force behind us.

Yes, provided it does not need a strong military force and spends the money that would otherwise be used for military spending on progressive and positive projects.

 @9H95XMX from Maryland answered…6mos6MO

No because there are serious threats that sometimes need strong military force to deal with.

A military is necessary to protect a country from others as well as to keep the peace within borders. The world is full of anarchy, and many want to overthrow governments and cause a ruckus. A military is needed, but the size of it varies.

Unfortunately, a decent military is required to protect the interests of a country,

A large country will never be safe without a military, for other countries (especially rivals/opponents of said country) will most likely take advantage of the venerability of the non-military country. Another reason is that is would put stress on allied countries' militaries and possibly compromise their security if they are to provide security to said non-military country.

Yes, military power does not define a country's overall strength. If the people of your country have a strong sense of self-worth they will defend you in ways a military force can not. In present times there is no reason for war over land or rash behaviors because you don't feel superior. Having a strong culture and a diverse community builds your strength in humanity. Being able to govern your people without threats of violence from your all-so-powerful military is what makes your country strong.

 @9H999XZ  from Missouri answered…6mos6MO

No, as without a strong millitary other countries have no deterrant from stealing your national resources or land.

No, only at the barrel of a rifle will foreign powers who seek to destroy or change America be stopped

Yes. I don't know for sure, but I think the United Arab Emirate doesn't have a large military force, but has a large economy.

Other countries are more advanced in other areas but no nation has a stronger military force than ours so I beleive that it is necessary that we maintain our armed forces but also ensure that we are not overspending.
