we can (and should) be taking certain ideals from other cultures and attempt to understand them from a different perspective than the enclosed one we all are in right now. and in doing this an individual can have more control as there how there life is shaped.

I don't think it influences our ethics and value at all, or at least very little. A majority of people would simply dismiss the truly different aspects of other cultures as weird or wrong rather than letting them influence their opinions.
