A pregnant woman who sued Texas over its abortion ban left the state to get an emergency abortion, the Center for Reproductive Rights said Monday.
Driving the news: Following "a week of legal whiplash and threats of prosecution" Kate Cox left her home state of Texas to get "the time-sensitive abortion care needed to protect her health and future fertility," per the center, which is a plaintiff in the lawsuit.
Later on Monday, the Texas Supreme Court issued a decision, ruling that Cox was not permitted to get an abortion in the state.
"These laws reflect the policy choice that the Legislature has made, and the courts must respect that choice," the ruling states.
Cox sued the state over its abortion ban last week, seeking an emergency exception for a pregnancy expected to end in miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death.
She was granted permission on Thursday to receive an emergency abortion despite a restrictive abortion ban that went into effect after Roe v. Wade was overturned last June.But a higher court then temporarily halted the permission, leaving Cox waiting for a ruling from the Texas Supreme Court.

If a man needs emergency medical procedure to save his life or future fertility would we even be having a debate? We are asking the wrong questions.
@9HL7WTZ5mos5MO
I believe woman should have the right to there own body

We are going backwards in time, we are not doing better, we are back-tracking.

The prolife movement has gone from compassion for the child to cruelty to the mother (and child).
Trisomy 18 is not a condition that is compatible with life.
@9HL64B75mos5MO
I think if it is considered an emergency, then there should be a quick response to the situation.
@9HL4L4M5mos5MO
Woman should have the choice to abort a embryo or birth a baby. No man or government should make a law or influence a woman to make that choice
@9HLBHZQ5mos5MO
Texas should let the woman receive an emergency abortion.

No government should be allowed to deny access to health care options, especially in a life threatening emergency. Abortion is not only a human right, but also a viable option for women who either can't take care of the child, or would die doing so.
@MercifulWhitingDemocrat5mos5MO
Republicans who gin up fake legal cases against gay rights, accuse a Democratic woman of daring to try to save her life in her home state.
As always, every despicable Republican accusation is a confession.
@9HL34NC5mos5MO
they shouldn't be able to have an abortion
@9HL5SKT5mos5MO
a court denying a woman her life, is awful, it is not your uterus, don't tell women what to do with it.
@9HL4MW85mos5MO
every woman should have the right to get an abortion if they need one. It also helps out with overpopulation.
@9HLBY225mos5MO
It’s a woman’s right and shouldn’t be policed by the government.
@9HL862NWomen’s Equality5mos5MO
Why would The court refuse a woman an EMERGENCY abortion, when it could cost her life?
@9HL35WG5mos5MO
Anti-abortion laws are disgusting.
@9HL5VK25mos5MO
I think that i agree with the texas supreme court abortion is illegal no matter what just like murdering someone its always illegal
@V0lunteerStellaGreen5mos5MO
We all should be voting for every woman like Kate Cox who could not get safe healthcare in their state. Our vote matters, our voice for our body matters
@9HL3TFK5mos5MO
These old people need to get out of the government.
@9HL4SSN5mos5MO
The government should not be allowed to deny access to health care options.
@9HKZZWY 5mos5MO
Good on Texas for that one, I care little for those careless enough to "need" an abortion by their mistake.
@EnragedM1norityLibertarian5mos5MO
Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness was not meant to be different based on state boundaries. Otherwise we just 50 countries.
@PaellaRoyDemocrat5mos5MO
This is what happens to countless movements on the left — police reform, eg: under fire, a rational position gets pushed to the extremes and becomes a political fetish of clout-seeking purist activists. Real world harms follow.

I think that women should be granted the option of abortion no matter at what stage or age.
@9HL95KF5mos5MO
Depending on the emergency the abortion should not have been ruled against
@9HL924Z 5mos5MO
Health decisions should be done only by the individual and provider.
@9HLJ9HV5mos5MO
I think it put’s women in danger. It threatens the mothers lift and child's life. Not all cases of abortions are equal and it shouldn’t be treated as such.
@MajesticSeahorseSocialist5mos5MO
Women have been treated as nothing more than “baby makers” since the beginning of time. And it’d better be a boy!
@DoveAmeliaGreen5mos5MO
Much respect to Kate Cox for both pushing the issue, and then for getting the hell out of dodge to receive the appropriate care for her situation.
