The unilateral decision of Maine’s secretary of state to disqualify Donald Trump from the ballot is insane, reckless, and indefensible. It’s another example of extraconstitutional decision-making that doesn’t come close to meeting any legitimate standard of due process of law.

 @SeagullTonyDemocrat from Maryland commented…4mos4MO

Either SCOTUS is "textualists" or they aren't. Are Roberts and Alito interested in throwing away the entire intellectual basis for their right-wing jurisprudence? For Donald Trump?

Everyone says "yes" because Republicans are hypocrites. I'm not so sure. The CW might be wrong.

 @9HRYZQN  from Michigan commented…4mos4MO

Trump has been shown to have committed insurrection acts and according to the 14th amendment he is disqualified

 @9DHRKZYDemocrat from Pennsylvania agreed…4mos4MO

I'd also like to add, people keep framing this as a "the government is trying to kick Trump off the ballot". No, Trump disqualified himself from the ballot by choosing to incite an insurrection.

 @9HRYQ3P from Illinois commented…4mos4MO

Find it scary that the government isn't allowing its people to decide the president.

 @PolentaDon from Iowa commented…4mos4MO

The ultimate purveyors of "ends justify the means." They truly believe their way of thinking is "right" and "moral," so acting in ways that demean freedom and liberty are pure and noble.

It's really wild that the Maine Secretary of State just seized the power to unilaterally block presidential candidates from the ballot, based on a brand new non-judicial administrative procedure she literally just made up herself, supposedly to enforce the federal 14th Amendment

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington commented…4mos4MO

The 14th Amendment was never even constitutionally ratified so it's null and void, Lincoln's military dictatorship and occupation of the South and the Radical Republicans forced it down their throats.

 @BetrayedMareIndependent from Connecticut commented…4mos4MO

Shenna Bellows, who was never popularly elected statewide, says the usual rules of evidence don't apply to her newly-invented procedure, which is governed by Maine administrative law, therefore authorizing her to accept the Jan 6 Committee Report as admissible probative evidence

 @BetrayedMareIndependent from Connecticut commented…4mos4MO

It’s funny, what state will be next? It’s coordinated by Biden WH, it’s a joke….Hail Mary fear.

 @RatAuroraRepublicanfrom Kansas commented…4mos4MO

Trump is the frontrunner not just for the GOP but for the 2024 general

Removing him is an act of civil war

Removing him ends the Republic

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington agreed…4mos4MO

The red states should instantly secede and form a Libertarian Confederacy

 @R3publicanIkeRepublicanfrom Pennsylvania commented…4mos4MO

What Republicans still don’t appreciate is how ruthless progressives are. They don’t care about democratic elections, the law, the 14th Amendment … They want power & will do anything to stop Trump from cutting them off, even if it means doing the very things they’re warning Trump may do as president

 @ISIDEWITHasked…4mos4MO

How do you feel about a state official having the power to determine a presidential candidate's eligibility based on constitutional interpretation?

 @9DHRKZYDemocrat  from Pennsylvania commented…4mos4MO

As the article says, "Bellows' office said her decision would not be enforced until the courts weigh in". The courts, of course, are the ones who should be deciding this.

 @9HS3TYF from New York commented…4mos4MO

I think it will not have the desired effect.

 @9DHRKZYDemocrat  from Pennsylvania disagreed…4mos4MO

I think it might. The only people who will be whipped up into a frenzy about this are people who would've voted for him anyway. I just can't see how this could do anything but hurt his image for moderates and independents.

 @9HS2ZQ6 from Tennessee commented…4mos4MO

Unless Trump is deemed unable to run by the United States Constitution he should not be removed from any ballot. That is unconstitutional.

 @9DHRKZYDemocrat  from Pennsylvania disagreed…4mos4MO

The United States Constitution, Amendment XIV, Section 3:

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemi…  Read more

Outrageous, even if you dislike trump you must acknowledge that the government has no right to decide who you can or can’t vote for.

 @9DHRKZYDemocrat  from Pennsylvania disagreed…4mos4MO

You're right, the government has no right to do that. But Bellows did not disqualify Trump from the ballot. Trump disqualified himself from the ballot by choosing to incite an insurrection, which, according to the 14th Amendment, which Bellows also did not write, renders him ineligible to be POTUS.

 @9HRZPRH from Nevada commented…4mos4MO

That’s not fair to the supports of a candidate in that state. Regardless of the candidate or state.

 @9HRZ3GDConstitution from Pennsylvania commented…4mos4MO

No state should be able to bar a candidate base on the opinions of less than 10 people
