America’s top diplomats are converging on the Middle East as they make a full-court press to prevent the war in the Gaza Strip from sparking a broader, more destabilizing regional conflict.
President Biden has sent Secretary of State Antony Blinken and one of his most trusted White House advisers to the Middle East amid a surge in attacks across the region that have increased the risks of any missteps triggering a larger, unpredictable conflagration.
Iran-backed militants across the region have reacted to the campaign in Gaza with near-daily attacks on Israel from Lebanon, dozens of strikes targeting U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria, and assaults on commercial ships in the Red Sea from Houthi fighters in Yemen. The groups have vowed to continue their attacks until Israel ends its war in Gaza.
Iran has moved a warship into the Red Sea, where American forces have shot down dozens of Houthi drones and missiles in recent weeks. On Wednesday, the U.S. and 12 key allies issued an ultimatum to Houthi fighters in Yemen to stop their attacks or face severe consequences.
Meanwhile, twin blasts in Iran on Wednesday killed over 80 people at a memorial for an Iranian commander killed in a 2020 U.S. strike, but there was no retaliation in the 24 hours before Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

Honestly, is the U.S. preventing or provoking? How could you possibly be preventing a war but sending over weapons? Thats more supporting a war than trying to stop it. The circumstances of everything going on all together is extremely saddening. I wish it could be handled another way.
@Patriot-#1776Constitution5mos5MO
It's provoking the war. Both parties are controlled by authoritarian neocons who want endless wars and live in delusions of imperialism and utopia. We need to get the heck out of the Middle East and mind our own business.
@9HW68DFRepublican5mos5MO
we should be taking precautions to protect ourselves and others.
@9HVYS6QRepublican5mos5MO
I think we should stay away from any conflict that does not involve us or could eventually hurt us.
@9HW9RZL5mos5MO
I think the US should be careful when meddling in the affairs of other countries, because it can easily go bad.
@S0v3reignPigletGreen5mos5MO
Don't you find it weird Al Qaeda and ISIS have never attacked a single Israeli asset, building, or person?
ISIS and Al Qaeda are extensions of Washington and Tel Aviv. This is who they serve and who helped spawn them
@9HW4TV9Independent5mos5MO
I wish people didn't fight each other all the time. Israel shouldn't have fought back because now the world isn't as much on their side. At 9/11, the world was on our side, but when we went on a killing spree, we lost the world's support. Israel should have found a more peaceful outcome. Now everyone is just mad.
@9HWB2NJ5mos5MO
Lots of unnecessary death and possible threats to other countries
@9HVFCY8Republican5mos5MO
its dumb and we just send over a lot of money
@9HVFYKDPeace and Freedom 5mos5MO
I think it's a very heartbreaking topic in general and it's good the U.S attempted to prevent it from becoming an even bigger war.
@9HW9BNX5mos5MO
I just don't want anymore wars to occur.
@9HW4NBL5mos5MO
We should all try to prevent war.
@9HVYW6X5mos5MO
their trying to help a war that wa started by terrorists
@ISIDEWITH5mos5MO
Do you believe the U.S. has a moral obligation to intervene in the Gaza conflict, or should other nations step in?
@Patriot-#1776Constitution5mos5MO
Au Contraire –
It has a moral obligation not to intervene in wars unless the American homeland is attacked, because we have a moral obligation to respect the sovereignty of other independent nations. We certainly have no "moral duty" to be an international busybody funding proxy wars and prolonging foreign bloodbaths.
@ISIDEWITH5mos5MO
Should America prioritize its own domestic issues over trying to prevent wars in other parts of the world?
