All Red States should do exactly what Governor DeSantis is doing, which is to vastly expand the State Guards, which, unlike the National Guards, are exclusively under a Governor’s control, so that states can protect their borders when the federal government fails to.
Defend the Guard legislation at the state level ensures that our National Guard troops aren't abused by sending them to never-ending undeclared foreign wars.
That's even easier to implement than creating new State Guard organizations.
Defend the Guard, which looks good, doesn’t really solve this potential scenario: Governor deploys National Guard to protect state borders, President commandeers that state’s National Guard to stand down.
