Should the federal government require people to wear face masks in public during the COVID pandemic?
In August 2020 Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden stated that, if elected, he would sign executive order requiring people to wear masks in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. President Donald Trump stated that he opposed a federal mask mandate and has left it up to the governors of each state to pass their own mandates. The wearing of non-medical face masks was first recommended by the CDC in April 2020 as a supplement to hygiene and physical distancing. This contradicted the U.S. Government’s February 2020 advice which stated that masks did not provide protection against…

After spending months in lockdown trying to prevent the spread of the disease, the effects were pretty much cancelled out with the protests and riots and cases shot back up again. What is the point of enforcing masks when half the population doesn't listen. I don't get it. If some people are going to not listen then should we just let everything go back to normal? Let those who are immune system compromised stay home, there are plenty of ways to have food/supplies delivered to your doorstep with contactless delivery.
@Lola3NPB 4yrs4Y
Exactly.
If people are at risk can't leave their home why doesn't the government work with a delivery service (Uber, Postmates, Amazon) to send supplies to people at their homes.
@8LHG3WR4yrs4Y
the coronavirus isnt real and should tell the truth to the people
@8SKKHSB3yrs3Y
I know people who've gotten the virus. It is very real. Your opinion is embarrassingly unscientific.
Deleted3yrs3Y
Oh it's real alright, both of my parents had it and they got it early in the pandemic, and my grandparents got it and all of them knew that it wasn't the cold or the flu, because it doesn't usually make your sinuses dry and make you cough violently. But you're right about the government not being honest. The thing is that they're using the pandemic not only to control the masses but also to control the outcome of the election as well.
@8PKYF8R3yrs3Y
No, I look at is as wearing a condom. You run the risk of catching a STD everytime you don’t wear a condom. Same thing as with wearing a mask do you think that wearing a condom should be mandated to prevent STDs? It’s a choice I think everyone should have to wear one or not wear one. Also in certain circumstances like in a hospital or retirement home it should be mandatory.
@8MXK7S54yrs4Y
This should be dependent on the infection rate in a given city
@8MMYT9N4yrs4Y
Masks don't do jack squat! It's a set up from the US government that's lying to the public and setting up for the NWO as a source of control! They're blocking our Bill of Rights which is meant to protect the US citizens from governmental officials. Last time I remember, it was "We, the people" not "We, the government"
@Lola3NPB 4yrs4Y
Exactly.
In order to prevent heart disease the government doesn't ban the consumption of sugar and fast food.
Heart disease kills 500K + people per year.
@ISIDEWITH4yrs4Y
No, we should let the virus naturally run its course
@8LS6N7KIndependent4yrs4Y
You dumbass libby retards, all you know is protecting the people and not shooting a mother **** er with an M9 when necessary. You weak *** mofuggas.
That’s a bit too extra, chief.
@8LS6N7KIndependent4yrs4Y
BRUH MOMENT!!!!
@8GX2ZPF4yrs4Y
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yeah chu magic
@ISIDEWITH4yrs4Y
No, the government should recommend it but not require it
@ISIDEWITH4yrs4Y
@8GXBBC24yrs4Y
Is this even a question?! Obviously we all need to wear masks when being more than 6 feet near each other.
@8Q2FH463yrs3Y
yeah thats correct but we can only hold our breaths for so long
and being sombody who has cared for family with covid-19
your going to get it someway some how and people are not going
to be scared there whole life.
@8PLGQL23yrs3Y
Yes but it is hard to enforce
@8PKYWWD3yrs3Y
Its a good idea to wear one and its not hard to do, but this should not be mandatory
@8PKN4F2Republican4yrs4Y
No, the government does not have the right to mandate what people can wear. Only private businesses can require it.
@8PJLNKQ4yrs4Y
No the government has no power to do that...
@8PJJ4ZJ4yrs4Y
No, the people who are worried about it can wear masks, but it shouldn’t be enforced on everyone else
@8PJ5649Libertarian4yrs4Y
It should be a decision for each person
@8PHQ2NWConstitution4yrs4Y
No, it should be left up to private businesses
No, it is not the federal government's job to regulate health and safety. That job belongs to state governments.
@8KDDN5R4yrs4Y
Only people with certain pre medical conditions should be worried.
@8PML6H2Republican3yrs3Y
Yes, but they need to provide for people that are unable to get a facemask
@8PLKTQ33yrs3Y
No because it’s in the air and air can find it’s way through anything it’s really stupid we should just say it’s another virus just deal with it
@8PLJ2FT3yrs3Y
We should let the virus run its course, but people should be able to wear masks if they want or need to
@8MT6B5FRepublican4yrs4Y
I think we should only have masks on in places were there are a lot of people and if we away from people there is no point for masks. I also do not find wearing masks outside very useful.
@Lola3NPB4yrs4Y
Correct. There is no reason to wear a mask outside.
@8MK7P834yrs4Y
yes this is VERY important in stopping the virus, along with proper hygiene, social distancing. Mask wearing should be mandated
@8KTXYTG4yrs4Y
I feel like it should not because how do they expect a mask to protect us from and virus. How do they expect the mask to protect us if mosquitoes can bite us through jeans which is thicker material than our mask.
@8PDW96F 4yrs4Y
Probably because a mosquito is significantly larger than a virus..? And masks (correct ones) are specifically designed to prevent airborne particulates from passing through. Medical and scientific advancements exist for a purpose, exactly like this. Your personal beliefs and ignorance should not be held to the same validity as the health and well-being of the community.
@8KN4D7X4yrs4Y
It should be up to businesses
@8PDW96F 4yrs4Y
Businesses don’t care about the health of you, their workers, or the public; they only care about what makes a profit. They would not hesitate to put their workers or customers in danger if it would make a buck in the short-term. No business has any business making health decisions.
@8PQMZYR3yrs3Y
It should be required. Stop making it so political. Do you want your grandmother to die? What about your friend's granny? Just wear a mask. If you have a medical condition that keeps you from wearing a mask, then don't go out. Get a friend or family to get whatever it is you want. Stop being selfish and ignorant.
@8M7Y9W5Republican4yrs4Y
No let people do what they want
@8M4D9GDLibertarian4yrs4Y
govt doesn’t have to right to tell people how to live their lives. Business can choose to not let them in and let people naturally choose to wear the mask
@8QYTXWS3yrs3Y
Absolutely. This is against the Constitution. The government works for "We the People." Businesses shouldn't deny admission either.
@8LYGVYRIndependent4yrs4Y
A statement of wear a mask. President WEARS a mask and leads. Build teamwork with propagation of positive ads all fighting against CoVID by giving a damn about your neighbor
@8KNXF8M4yrs4Y
Basically yes, but enforcement of face-mask wearing should be done in the form of closing businesses which are uncooperative and there should not be arrests made for failure to wear face masks, because that would be counter productive in containing covid spread.
