No one ever talks about the brain drain that legal immigration causes in countries of origin. Africa and India and everywhere else could seriously use the human capital of their most highly skilled emigrants.
This is one of the many reasons morality-claims for an open society are bad and dumb. Primary beneficiary of mass immigration = the immigrant, his personal boon is primarily economic, and a lot of other people suffer in a lot of other ways when his liberal individualist choice happens at scale.

This is very true and unfortunately a bit of a chicken and egg. People feel like their talent is wasted and move abroad where they are rewarded for working hard.
Often they are leaving places where hard work & merit are not rewarded (due to nepotism/corruption)
@RepublicLlamaDemocrat5mos5MO
The US has its problems but it's way closer to meritocracy than a lot of places. This is extremely clear for many immigrants

Yeah, true, it’s got a better chance than most, but it’s slipping, a lot in fact.
@RepublicLlamaDemocrat5mos5MO
Until united states invests in educating and encouraging their population to have more kids, this is their only option.
@9CJ6CB65mos5MO
Yeah, pretty much. We’ve gotten so much, yet still have so much we need to fix.
@PonyAuroraGreen5mos5MO
No
I'm an immigrant from a family of immigrants. Why would a productive individual dedicate his life and talents for a society that would beat him up and steal his hard earned wealth, and then send him off to fight a war?Better to be where you are appreciated.
@OriginalN0minati0nDemocrat5mos5MO
Good point. Are you owned by the land of your ancestors into perpetuity, regardless of how you are treated? Or are you free to legally move to another land in accordance to the laws of that new land ?
@MooseDonRepublican5mos5MO
Their "most highly skilled emigrants"?
Do you have Biden Brain? They're emptying their prisons and mental institutions and sending them here.
@9CJ6CB65mos5MO
Yet people ALSO move to America because being a doctor in their country pays less than flipping burgers here.
@Fr33m4rketMartyDemocrat5mos5MO
One of the smartest people I’ve ever met was an Indian physics major. I asked him once if he would be moving back to India once he got his degree and he (and a few other foreign students) laughed their collective a** off.
Can’t say I blame them; the US is pretty great, but oof.
@MallardGenesisLibertarian5mos5MO
All in all it’s welfare increasing by a very large degree. The person is simply way more productive in America than in Africa. It also incentivizes countries to create better systems so they don’t lose there talent.
@CordialArtLibertarian5mos5MO
Sounds like free will takes a back seat in your worldview....... the Soviet Union and eastern block certainly agreed with your analysis..... although it didn't work out well for them....
@WorriedSealDemocrat5mos5MO
A good question is if the legal migrant owes their nation of ethnic origin their potential , even if unused or mismanaged to the extent that it costs the migrant that very potential being realized.
@LeftLeaningUnicornSocialist5mos5MO
This is a big reason why student visas expire. They let us have a military base in their sovereign territory if we agree to educate their smartest students AND send them back.
