Pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Monday blocked off entrances to the Holland Tunnel and the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, disrupting rush-hour traffic in Manhattan as they protested Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip and called for a cease-fire.
Protesters gathered at the Holland Tunnel around 9:30 a.m. and held aloft a Palestinian flag and banners that read “Lift the siege on Gaza” and “End the occupation.” Nearby, a group of demonstrators in fluorescent vests and masks linked arms and redirected cars away from the outbound ramp. Shortly thereafter, they were arrested — 120 protesters at the tunnel in all, according to the police — with some chanting “Free Palestine” as they sat on the ground with their hands tied.
Similar scenes unfolded simultaneously at the three bridges, with traffic resuming, if slowly, by 11. The participants had gathered at City Hall Park early Monday, the police said, before dispersing in smaller groups and traveling to the bridges and the tunnel.
Mon Mohapatra, 30, one of the demonstrators at the Brooklyn Bridge, said the organizers on Monday represented various groups, including the Palestinian Youth Movement, Al-Awda: The Palestinian Right to Return Coalition, Democratic Socialists of America, Jewish Voice for Peace and others.

Arrest EVERY protester shutting down traffic and causing this dangerous situation on NYC streets. Yet another epic self-own by these far left wing agitators who have no idea how to expand their base beyond the usual malcontents and Israel haters. This will accomplish zero.
@C0al1tionDoughnutGreen4mos4MO
Polls consistently show about 2/3rds of the public and 80% of Democrats support a Gaza ceasefire. However, the Biden Admin won't listen and only 10% of Congress is backing a ceasefire. The real problem here is a breakdown in representative democracy.
@AmiableD3baterConstitution4mos4MO
Take a poll whether they support having to sit in traffic while these idiots break the law without law enforcement enforcing the law. Bet it’s closer to 100% against. Frankly Israel is a sovereign nation and we have nothing to say about a cease fire.
@9CJ6CB64mos4MO
A sovereign nation we have lots of sway over, and civilian casualties are everyone’s: concern.
@GoofyBatIndependence4mos4MO
the real problem is hamas didn’t agree to the last ceasefire offer and broke the last one by stopping the release of hostages
@RebelScum76Constitution4mos4MO
Yeah, and I'm sure that number is going to sky-rocket as conservatives flock to the cause of the same boneheads who blocked major bridges, created massive traffic jams, and stole thousands of collective hours of New Yorkers' time. That right there is a WINNING tactic – make your enemies hate you even more than they already do. Though I disagree with these people, I have to give them credit for the TACTICAL BRILLIANCE and POLITICAL GENIUS.
@Patriot-#1776Constitution4mos4MO
Dang, I thought I was the only sarcastic liberty-lover on this platform ... but points to you for a well-crafted comeback!
I've seen those polls too. Different margins on each poll. I don't think most Americans understand what a ceasefire would mean in this context. It's easy to say you support the end of a war. We all want that. But a ceasefire = Hamas victory and a chance for them to recalibrate.
@9CJ6CB64mos4MO
Hamas is drastically weakened, and Israel can blister their defenses too. Create strong blockades over conquered areas, sweep the new area, feed and help civilians, then keep watch, but they’ve done ENOUGH killing.
@RebelScum76Constitution4mos4MO
Steamroll 'em if they won't leave, I say!
@PloverAndyLibertarian4mos4MO
So NYC is implementing a controversial and expensive surge pricing structure on commuters because traffic in the city is becoming a problem, but they let pro-Hamas activists just shut down tunnels and bridges?
@HopefulYakRepublican4mos4MO
If not mistaken, the congestion surcharge crap $$ toll
is for incoming traffic to NYC . They protested the outbound traffic. Let them try this stunt in NJ next time for incoming NYC traffic- that will be broken up ASAP by the PA cops.
Since MAGA isn’t very upset at protesters blocking traffic I have to assume they support Hamas or that they really don’t get mad at something until directed to do so.
@GoofyBatIndependence4mos4MO
What do you propose they do? Run them over?
That would actually be the just thing to do, but they don't want to get Daniel Penny'd.
@B1llOfRightsBatConstitution4mos4MO
I understand (somewhat) the logistical nightmare of trying to arrest illegal protesters when there's 3k of them to 100 police officers.
But how hard would it be to send 25-50 officers AS SOON AS the complaints come rolling in - and arrest 12 dorks dangerously blocking traffic??
take hamas out of power then peace talks can start
