Alternatively, the governments throughout the world could simply stop spending more money than received via taxes, fees and such thereby reducing the amount of national script notes investors are forced fed. I know, silly statement.

The would require the political class to prioritize, evaluate, reform, and maintain oversight. Boring work that alienates certain narrow constituencies, perhaps reduces donations to their campaign funds, and stirs up controversy. The media whips up a false damaging narrative.

Difficult choices would have to made, just like it is in the private sector and in most families.

The effort requires courage and dedication, not starting with the political class most likely, but with voters.

By way of example, consider the ethanol mandate, its costs and its benefits. Logic dictated quite sometime ago that it should have been terminated but now, the agricultural community seems to think it essential.

Or fire 80 percent of all federal agents & abolish the IRS, CIA, NSA, NIH, CDC, FBI, DOJ, DoE, DoL, DHS, HHS, NRA, EPA, and burn down the rest of the deep state

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…3mos3MO

We need several of these to keep lead out of our water, and what do you mean by the NRA? You mean that random National Recovery Administration of the 30s-50s?

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington commented…3mos3MO

No, we need none of them to keep lead out of our water when States could just as easily fulfil identical functions. By the NRA I mean the Nuclear Regulatory Agency.

 @ZestyInd3pendentTranshumanist from New Hampshire commented…3mos3MO

Let's keep it simple. The interest on the US govt debt is fast approaching one trillion dollars, more than defense, roughly 5% of GDP and there are no viable ways of not only paying it off, but stopping it from exploding even higher, other than default, massive devaluation of the dollar, and loss of reserve currency status. Depression-like conditions follow. On the bright side, US becomes a manufacturing/exporting superpower again.

 @Ind3pend3ntElephantRepublican from Washington commented…3mos3MO

You forgot higher taxes. The good faith and credit of the USA is its taxpayers.

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington commented…3mos3MO

It's not "taxpayers" so much as "tax victims". We (or at least I) are/am not paying taxes VOLUNTARILY, but because we are compelled through brute force and the threat of guns, chains, and imprisonment do allow the government to plunder our money. Taxation is theft.

 @9JMJQ6N from Missouri commented…3mos3MO

National debt is too high now, will be burden in the future to those not yet adults

 @9JMJPBH from New Jersey commented…3mos3MO

US debt is unsustainable & its potential harm is not fully appreciated or understood by voting populous. The overhang has already crowded out & continues to squeeze private investment, hurting our longer term economic health. Interest payments, now representing 13% (and rising) of the Federal budget squeezes out better uses, such as infrastructure. It's time to stop the insanity, balance the budget at all costs. It is now necessary to both cut spending dramatically & raise taxes, preferably through a consumption tax.

 @9JMDFNS from Maryland commented…3mos3MO

I think it wants to hit $190 Billion for Month to make the price go up.

 @9JML87S from Ohio commented…3mos3MO

Debt sucks and I'm so tired of the government just allowing it to go up and up and up and up. It seems like the government is making absolutely no efforts to reduce the deficit! Even if we can't stop the debt from increasing, can we at least stop it from increasing as much?

The problems with debt and inflation in the U.S. is out of hand and a solution must be found.

 @9JMDHGG from Illinois commented…3mos3MO

why are they spending so much money? Is there not a budget? How are adults coming to decisions leaving us in billions of dollars in debt, then civilians have to pay the price hence inflation and high taxes.

 @9JM2RTB from Idaho commented…3mos3MO

We waste our taxes on military while we can get free education or healthcare and not have to worry so much of homelessness or our people leaving the country from being so expensive.

I believe the current president is not doing good maintaining our money along with the U.S. spending.

 @9JM4337 from Kentucky commented…3mos3MO

Biden doesn't need to be president because he doesn't know what he's doing and he's taking our country down with him.

We need to work on lowering the debt and paying the other countries back.

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington commented…3mos3MO

That's $600 for every American man, woman, and child in this country. This is disgusting. Think what else you could buy with $600 – some could feed their families for a month with that, or longer in certain states!

I know I'm a broken record on this point, but just dropping the factoid here that the last time the US actually paid down debt was in 1969. There are likely only a handful of folks anywhere in the federal government who were in the government back then.

 @9JLJRHD from Missouri commented…3mos3MO

I think spending is out of control. America needs to be put on a budget and go on a diet.

 @GutturalReferendumRepublican from Virginia commented…3mos3MO

I had to laugh the other day when the Honorable Ms. Yellen said she would be "more sensitive" to Treasury issuance, as if she will be able to hold back the wall of debt that's coming about on account of unfunded liabilities, like the 100+ billion in aide to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.

Government lies through its teeth.

They should not be spending 190 Billion dollars on whatever they are buying. Insted of using it for schools and other community struggles.
